Tiny Moment * Day 24

"Crying Shame"
Is it just my kids or are mine the only ones that think that they are entitled to anything and everything? I know for sure that my kids fall in this category. Here are some examples of why.. .. .Yes this is parenting at my best. Please bear with me.
1. They say while grocery shopping, "Can I have a treat?"
I of course say, "NO!" Who do they think they are talking to? A treat? Maybe some raisins or nuts, but NOT a treat.
MELT DOWN!
2. They say, "Can we have a new toy?"
Every time I say the same thing, "Maybe for your birthday."
This actually works 50% of the time. The other 50% MELT DOWN!
3. They say, "Can we have cereal for Lunch?" They would have cereal for every meal if I would let them.
I say, "How about Chicken and apples."
MELT DOWN!
4. I say "Nap!"
MELT DOWN! NO nap so no circus. Actually putting it down on paper it seems so mean. Who doesn't let their kids go to the circus? There was alot of crying and gnashing of teeth. I'm seriously over it. Maybe next time they will realized that we, Tim and I . . . .OK. . .when it comes to discipline I am usually the heavy handed one in charge. :) These kind of pictures just kill Tim. He does not like to see his kids cry. In my defense, they were warned and warned and warned repeatedly. I am a big believer in that if you tell your children something you have to enforce it or your kids won't know what to believe. So no circus for them.
Those are the four situations that cause some serious melt downs and grief for me at our house. We are working on them pretty much all the time. It really is a crying shame that for them that "we" are in charge and it is seriously a crying shame for me that I have to deal with these "MELT DOWNS!"

What a cute little melt down. I think I would melt down too if I asked you for a treat and you gave me raisins. I love you though!

I feel like all I have are melt downs at our house. I have to tell you that my kids love mini wheats and I let them eat them for lunch : ). I figure they are still really good for them. I have been trying to not say thing that I know I do not want to have to really do. I still have not started my tiny moments.

Cereal for breakfast, lunch and dinner if it was not up to me! And the Melt Downs, I thought it was just my little girl that did that ALL THE TIME! I can sympthize with you 100% and understand you completely when it comes to this! You are an awsome Mom and keep up the GREAT work!

I use the birthday thing all the time. Christmas also works well! But you just gotta love those meltdowns. I can't wait for the day when I don't have to take any kids to the store. Such a hard thing to do.

So glad to know that my kids aren't the only ones with a serious entitlement problem! It's a big issue at our house right now.

Uh no not just your kids trust me! Mine seem to think they get what they want when they want it and when they don't well we all know what happens then, don't we! We have many meltdown's in this house too so don't worry your definately not alone, but I know that doesn't make it any easier for you especially in the moment! Keep smilin :)

I love that picture it is so cute. We have those moments everyday! I want! I need! Melt down at least 5 times and that is only after a full day at work and then coming home to the Tay Monster! =)

Oh bless his little heart! I wish I had some pearls of wisdom, I don't! But you can always send them to Aunt Lyss's house for the day if you need a break.

Following through on your threats or promises is truly important. Otherwise, you are right, your kids won't know what to believe or when to believe you. Being a parent is tough. I am the heavy hand in our house too. The kids think Kai is always joking (no follow through:))

Way to go on sticking to your guns. It is so hard specially when you make a punishment at the spur of the moment Like no Tv and no computer. C.has missed a couple of birthday parties from Meltdowns. and M. who is 7 1/2 still ended up missing a sleepover at her cousins for refusing to help clean her room. (that one worked out okay because just as I was caling to say she wasn't coming the phone rang, her cousin was having a melt down as well so they both lost the sleep over. Just remember, your a great mom and you are awesome for doing what you say.
PS. Dad's are always pushovers when the kids cry.

This is so true! I'm glad I'm not the only one. And the more kids you have I swear the melt downs just feed off each other.

The meltdowns sure help you appreciate the sweet moments even more, huh? It sounds like you have young children with minds of their own?! :)
