Pedal Pedaling

WHAAAAAAHOOOOOOOO! The Seattle to Portland Bike Ride was a huge success. I have to admit I was a tad nervous about the ride. I never doubted that I wouldn't complete the STP. Let's be honest. . .if you set your mind to something . . .anything. . . you can finish. . .there were babies, grandparents, a man on a unicycle, puppies, a 300lb + man cycling, etc. I wanted to feel good and I didn't want Tim to feel like his 84 year old grandmother could peddle faster than I did. We peddled our little hearts out and had a great time. In the meantime I picked up a couple great biking secrets. . .
My number one favorite secret is that biking in a pack makes a world of difference. For instance. . .it would feel as though I was peddling 17mph, but in a pack I was really going 22mph. In my cycling world a pack = good. My Timmers on the other hand just likes to hammer away at the road. No pack for him. . .half the time we just voted him as the pack leader. I think it would be fun to register with my own little pack. . .have matching jerseys and be one of 'those groups.' Heck if it puts a smile on your face we could even cycle for a good cause. That sounds fun to me. Any takers??
My second favorite biking secret is that so much of athletics is mental. If you tell yourself you are tired. . .you are tired and you become even more tired. If you tell your body your knees hurt and muscles ache they hurt and ache even more. If you tell yourself you feel great and just keep pedal pedaling, the time just flies and the miles add up.

Lastly, not to toot my own horn or anything, but I was rather quite impressed with myself I stayed mentally strong and physically felt GREAT. My bum was rather sore the 2nd day, but I wouldn't have expected anything less. . . one hour a week in spin class isn't the best preparation for a 202.25 mile bike ride, but it did the trick this year. Happy pedaling and let's get working on that group for next year. :)

WHILE THE PARENTS ARE AWAY THE CHILDREN WILL PLAY. . .DOES THAT INCLUDE MA DEB AND PAPA RICK? Thanks for watching the kiddos while we were out. I'm pretty sure that the children didn't miss us. . . not even for a second.

Good job Shauna - I am truly impressed! Even from my commanding station on the couch - you make me fill just a little more fit, just seeing what you can do! Go Girl!

Great job Shauna on a long bike ride! You and Sunny should ride after she has this baby- she is always looking for a good bike partner.

That is wonderful. Jesse and I are thinking maybe next year we will try to do something like that. He really wants to compete in the wild flower. I think we should concentrate on one thing at a time. We will see what happens.

WOw. I feel like every time I pull up your job, you and/or Tim is completing some amazing athletic event. Good for you. Secretly, I've always wanted to be a biker. I LOVE spinning and figure that I would love road biking. Count me in for your "pack" next year.
